Wood Bison have returned to Alaska.

Help us tell their story.

Our Mission

Our latest project from Sandcrane Hill Productions follows the remarkable resurgence of wood bison in interior Alaska’s Innoko Valley. This species was nearly lost from the continent in the 20th century, and its ongoing restoration offers a powerful story of conservation in action. We travel to these relocation sites to film these animals and the organizations that continue to support them.

Your support helps us bring this field-based work to viewers who care about wildlife, ecosystems, and the future of wild places.

Production Support

To document this story responsibly, we need to be on the ground in the remote winter conditions of the Innoko Valley. The Alaska and Kenai chapters of Safari Club International have generously contributed $20,000 toward production, which allowed us to film the historic wood bison release in Alaska’s Minto Flats. We now need to raise $10,000 more to complete filming in the Innoko Valley.

Your contribution will help cover essential on-the-ground costs, including:

  • Snow machine rentals, fuel, and extreme winter gear needed to work in deep snow

  • Skilled local guides with experience navigating Alaskan winter conditions

  • Flights to and from Innoko Valley for our field team

Every dollar brings us closer to capturing and sharing this story with the detail, attention, and quality it deserves.

The Film’s Impact

The finished documentary will:

  • Document wood bison in their ancestral landscape

  • Highlight the people and science behind the reintroduction effort

  • Share a conservation success story that raise awareness and inspire the public to support Wood Bison conservation throughout Alaska

We plan to submit the film to festivals that reach both conservation professionals and general audiences, including the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival, Anchorage International Film Festival, Banff Mountain Film Festival, and Wildscreen Film Festival.

This project is already supported by Safari Club International (Alaska and Kenai chapters), which have contributed $20,000 toward production. We’re now raising an additional $10,000 to complete filming in Alaska’s Innoko Valley.

Donor Recognition

As a thank-you, all supporters contributing $100 or more will be listed in the documentary’s end credits under “Special Thanks.”

We deeply appreciate your help in making this project possible.
